Beloved downtown Bangor dog has died

A beloved downtown Bangor icon has died. Buddy, a chocolate Labrador, died Tuesday morning “peacefully and quietly at home,” according to a social media statement from Waverly: The New Restaurant. Buddy was a mainstay at the downtown tavern, near the transit center, mingling with patrons while they enjoyed their pints or a game of pool. “We are all extremely saddened by this unexpected loss. … we all lost a part of our family today,” the business said. Tributes poured in over social media Tuesday, with many remembering Buddy as a “downtown legend” and “truly the best boy imaginable.” Over the years, some downtown regulars have even dubbed Buddy the “unofficial mayor of Bangor.” The business’ owners have asked that the public be respectful if staff wish to not talk about his passing.
