BBC's Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing star Bob Mortimer returned to our screens with the first episode of season eight of his tranquil series alongside his mate Paul Whitehouse on Sunday night. As they explored the fishing delights of Hampshire's River Itchen, the comedian addressed his health struggles and revealed his transformed smile. Taking a breather from their fishing to admire the scenery, the conversation turned to their looks when Bob flashed a grin at Paul and asked: "Do you like my new teeth?" The Welsh actor replied: "Yeah, it's nice. Where'd you get them done?" To which Bob humorously retorted: "Dentist." He then dismissed any suggestion of having travelled to Turkey for his dental makeover, leading the BBC Fast Show star to ask: "What did you ask for?" Baring his teeth, Bob quipped: "Teeth that work, listen." Demonstrating his teeth in action, he persuaded his friend to do the same. But when Paul's teeth proved quieter than his own, Bob jested: "No, because they'd crumble, wouldn't they? They'd crumble like an Edinburgh rock," reports the Express . Later in the episode, as the pair enjoyed breakfast, their physical attributes once again became the subject of discussion. When Paul enquired if Bob was still battling shingles, the star confessed: "Yeah, it's messed up my muscles in my leg, but you have to have an attitude of gratitude, it could be so much worse." Bob humorously commented: "Look at your face. You've got to look at that every morning," to which Paul responded with a laugh: "At least you've enhanced your teeth, haven't you?" The comedian then flashed a broad smile, proudly displaying his teeth, while Paul feigned being dazzled by his grin. The 66-year-old continued: "Have you seen how long they are?" as he lifted his top lip to reveal the true length of his teeth, causing Paul to react with surprise, exclaiming: "Oh no!" and then imitating a horse. This followed the Reeves and Mortimer star recently posting a throwback photo of himself, which he captioned: "1990 with original teeth." The caption seemed to allude to Bob's admission on Would I Lie to You? that he often carries out dental work on himself. "For the past 15 years, I have performed my own dentistry," he confessed, leaving the panel astonished to discover it was true. At the time, he stated: "I don't do extractions. I do fillings, crown replacements...I don't do implants, I don't do root canal." The TV personality proceeded to explain that he uses a dental cement, typically used for fillings and other dental procedures, when he's working on himself and admitted that the "hardest thing" about the process is finding an appropriate way to hold the mirror. This follows Bob using a wheelchair while filming past seasons of Gone Fishing, as he opened up about his health struggles and explained how Paul had to "look after" him when he was unable to walk due to a six-month battle with shingles in his muscles. He explained: "I got a bit unlucky with it, I lost the use of one of my legs but it’s coming back now, I’m a bit limpy but I’m very grateful to be back up and going."
