Bawku West District Assembly forms Sanitation Task Force to enforce bye-laws

The Bawku West District Assembly has established a dedicated sanitation task force to strengthen the enforcement of sanitation bye-laws and promote cleaner communities across the district. Speaking to the media on Saturday, November 1, 2025, after leading a clean-up exercise at the Sapelliga Market Square as part of National Sanitation Day, District Chief Executive James Ayamweogo said the task force will work closely with local authorities to monitor compliance and take firm action against offenders. “We have reached a point where keeping our environment clean must go beyond rhetoric,” Mr. Ayamweogo said. “The task force will not only enforce our bye-laws but also educate residents on proper waste management and hygiene practices.” He stressed that the fight against poor sanitation demands collective responsibility, noting that indiscipline in waste disposal continues to threaten public health and the environment. “Sanitation is a collective fight,” he said. “It is my responsibility, your responsibility, and our responsibility to keep our surroundings clean.” The latest clean-up marks the fourth National Sanitation Day exercise in the district and the second since its reinstatement by the Mahama administration last month.
