The Australian wildlife warrior continues to nail the briefs on US Dancing With The Stars, this time theming the Argentine tango with one spooky Halloween dance set to a haunting version of Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by The Hampton String Quartet. Dressed in gothic-inspired costume complete with smudged black eyeliner, the 21-year-old portrayed a conductor who brings his dance partner Witney Carson back to life. Irwin’s passionate conductor is soon reprimanded and dragged into the abyss before re-emerging on stage with his face soaked with fake blood. The bold and haunting choreography got two perfect 10s from judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, and nines from Derek Hough and guest judge Cheryl Burke. Irwin and Carson got a total score of 38 out of 40 – their highest score of the season, making them serious contenders for the mirrorball trophy. Burke – who won the mirrorball trophy back when she was a pro-dancer on the show – called the performance “powerful and magnetic”. Social media also exploded with thoughts as viewers agreed the dance was next-level. “He nailed that first beat. I got goosebumps,” one commented on Instagram, as another wrote, “The musicality, the intensity, the lift down the stairs, the partnership, the choreography. Insane.” “Just when I think he couldn’t possibly outdo the previous week boom there he is again killin’ it,” yet another chimed in. Other viewers joked that Irwin still looked “so hot” with blood all over him. “Imagine turning the channel and seeing Australia’s sweetheart Robert Irwin covered in blood with no context,” one tweeted over on X, as another agreed, “Robert Irwin covered in blood? ... More into it than I maybe should be.” “Something about a man (Robert Irwin) being covered in blood,” another tweeted. Fans were no doubt thrilled for Irwin’s score this week, as last week it was a different story. Irwin took to the stage with partner Carson, giving the Wicked number Dancing Through Life a red-hot go. The song was of course made famous on stage but truly came alive with Jonathan Bailey’s performance as Fiyero in the 2024 movie adaptation of the classic. First reactions from fans included those who were wowed once again by Irwin’s dance moves and charisma on stage. “He was so goooooood!” one fan wrote on X, as another agreed, “So iconic.” And another – one of many – begged: “Give him your votes people!” Sadly for fans, Irwin, and even mum Terri watching in the audience, failed to completely impress the judges. While many viewers believed he deserved the full score, judges awarded the duo a total score of 36 out of 40. They praised their storytelling and precision, but admitted it wasn’t the best performance of the night. “Robert Irwin robbed AGAIN like that was literally Jonathan Bailey,” one person fumed on X. “Not only is Robert Irwin dancing through life, he’s also dancing through bulls**t with this riggory,” another added.
