Auburn public skate to benefit New Beginnings on Nov. 16

AUBURN — Ready to hit the ice while raising money for a great cause? People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to gather at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Sunday, Nov. 16 for a special public skate that will support a local organization dedicated to providing for many in need. The event will be held from 3:50-4:50 p.m. at the arena, located on 985 Turner St. in Auburn. Admission is $5, with $5 skate rentals for adults and children available. Half of the proceeds will be given to New Beginnings in Lewiston. For over 40 years, the organization has provided homeless youth with safety, counseling and an understanding of their value and worth and, in the process, positively changed the direction of thousands. New Beginnings operates a 24-hour youth shelter named Marian’s Place on 491 Main St., offers additional supportive housing and sponsors a street outreach team to help youth from throughout Maine find safety. The staff provides a warm welcome to youth (ages 10-21), encouragement for family mediation and case management. The organization also helps develop life skills through education and employment support and provides prevention services to curb the risk of homelessness. Public skates are held several times each year at Norway Savings Bank Arena with a community organization benefitting from each event.
