After losing to the Buffalo Bills 40-9 at home last week, the Carolina Panthers rebounded with a 16-13 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. The Packers entered the game with a 5-1-1 record, the best in the NFC. The Panthers posted their first victory against a team that entered the game with a winning record since a 30-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 11, 2022. The Seahawks had a 7-5 record before the loss to Carolina. The Panthers won seven games in the intervening two seasons combined, but Carolina will play the New Orleans Saints in an NFC South game on Nov. 9 with a 5-4 record in the 2025 NFL season. “Any win for us is special, especially been looked at for so long as a team where people think they’re going to just come in and get automatic win,” Carolina defensive end Derrick Brown said. “So for us to come out here, be competing down to the wire, this is what we wanted, right? This is the culture that (general manager) Dan (Morgan) and (coach) Dave (Canales), all top down, this what they brought in and this is what they want to instill in us so we can be able to execute in the game. So, I mean, like we said today after the game, man, all we need is us and be able to go out and execute and do what we do.” Brown had four tackles and one quarterback hit in the game for the Carolina defense, which came up big in the red zone. The Packers lost a fumble after reaching the Panthers 16-yard line in the first quarter, settled for a field goal after reaching the Carolina 8 in the second quarter, missed a field-goal attempt after getting to the Panthers 25 in the third quarter and got stopped on downs at the Carolina 13 in the fourth quarter. Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig had an interception on a pass that Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love left short of his receiver as he was being buried by Brown. Carolina followed the takeaway with a touchdown drive for a 13-6 lead in the third quarter. “Obviously, coming to a historic place, but for us, it was just the next game, man,” Brown said. “We’ve been preaching all week, man. We lost bad last week. We got our ass whooped. So to be able to come back out here and just get back into it, that’s been a thing for us. We sat in there this week, and we’re like, ‘Hey, like, got to take that one on the chin and we got to roll back. We got to roll back into what we do.’” Brown was among the 14 former Auburn players who got on the field on the ninth Sunday of the NFL’s 106th season. Three other former Auburn players were involved in the Carolina-Green Bay game: Packers safety Jaylin Simpson is on the practice squad and not eligible to play. Packers quarterback Malik Willis dressed for the game but did not play. Colby Wooden started at defensive tackle for the Packers. Wooden did not record any stats before leaving with a shoulder injury.
