Apollo AyurVAID opens third Chennai unit, on track to open 4 more nationally in next 3 months

Apollo AyurVAID Hospitals, Apollo Hospitals Group’s chain of precision Ayurveda hospitals, on Monday opened a new 35-bed hospital at Greams Road, Chennai. This is the the brand’s third location in Chennai and 12th nationally. Apollo Hospitals acquired a majority stake in AyurVAID for around ₹26 crore in 2022. Rajiv Vasudevan, Founder & Managing Director, Apollo AyurVAID Hospitals, said that in the next 3 months, they will open another 4 hospitals, and the beds capacity will rise to 350 beds from around 285 beds currently. “We see scope in state capitals and and other top cities like Ahmedabad, Pune and others,” he said. Interestingly, contrary to public perception, Apollo AyurVAID finds that the 25-45 years cohort are majority of the people coming to them. Young people who are internet savvy and have insurance coverage from their workplaces are the ones coming to us the most, Vasudevan, said. “If the young are seeing Ayurveda, then it is surely growing,” he added. The new Chennai facility was inaugurated by Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder-Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, in the presence of Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd., and Apollo AyurVAID’s Vasudevan. It is designed to deliver evidence-based Ayurveda care across specialties including orthopaedics, neuro and neurodegenerative disorders, metabolic disorders, women’s health, paediatric developmental disorders, elder care, Ayurveda para-surgical treatments for ano-rectal conditions, chronic wounds, sports medicine, dermatology, and respiratory disorders. ‘Integrative approach’ The chain follows an ‘integrative approach’ to medicine to supplement and complement the allopathy medicine. “We have integrative models going on with Apollo, where we see patients being referred by the allopathy doctors coming to us, and we see patients coming to us also going there,” he said. Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder-Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, said, “At Apollo, we believe that Ayurveda, when practiced with precision, evidence, and patient safety, complements modern medicine by addressing the root causes of disease and enhancing wellbeing.” He added that it will be a treatment backed with evidence of scientific research, and they will explore introducing it within many of their hospitals. To queries around expansion, Reddy said that they will look to take Apollo AyurVAID international too. Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. and Chairperson, Apollo AyurVAID, said,”Through Apollo AyurVAID, we are complementing modern medical care with clinically governed, evidence-based Ayurveda that enhances recovery, restores body–mind balance, and promotes lifelong wellbeing. With a strong presence across all four southern states, New Delhi, Almora, and upcoming expansions to western and eastern India, Apollo AyurVAID Hospitals continues to build India’s most advanced network for precision Ayurveda and holistic healing.” Speaking about the potential in Ayurveda for advanced treatments, Vasudevan points out that Ayurveda provides a picture of a whole person health and not just information of the said ailment. In that sense it has a unique advantage to provide wholistic data for new-age initiatives like Digital Twin, he says. We are in talks and working with some global research institutes on these lines, he adds. Published on November 3, 2025
