Annamayya district prepares for cyclone Montha’s orange alert

Annamayya District Collector Nishant Kumar directed all the departments on Saturday (October 25, 2025) to remain vigilant for the next three days in view of the forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall, following an orange alert issued due to cyclone Montha. The Collector reviewed disaster preparedness measures at an emergency meeting here with the officials of the Revenue, Police, Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, Irrigation, and Roads and Buildings Departments. Sub-Collectors Bhavana (Rajampet) and Challa Kalyani (Madanapalle) were also present. Later, speaking to the media, Mr. Nishant Kumar said that all field-level officers were put on high alert. The municipal officials were tasked with identifying vulnerable buildings and old school structures, and residential areas prone to waterlogging. The irrigation officials told to monitor the water levels in reservoirs, and stock sandbags to plug breaches if reported from any weak bunds. The public in low-lying and flood-prone areas should be alerted through the public address system. The Collector advised the farmers to safeguard harvested crops and livestock. Health officials should stock adequate medicines, and be prepared for emergency medical camps, while special focus should be maintained on pregnant women at flood-prone areas, the Collector said, adding that the officials should set up a control room by Sunday morning (October 26). The police were instructed to place warning boards near overflowing canals, bridges, and culverts, and to promptly report any emergencies to the control rooms.
