Actor Anjali Anand has shared a completely different side of Jaya Bachchan, one that fans rarely get to see. Known to the public as strict and serious, Jaya, according to Anjali, is actually funny, warm, and full of life. The two worked together in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), and it seems their bond on set turned into a sweet off-screen friendship too. Speaking to Filmygyan, Anjali talked about her experience of working closely with Jaya Bachchan during the shoot. “She’s a grandmother, so she’s walking with her granddaughter and someone is coming (with their phone). She doesn’t know what paps look like… she doesn’t walk on the streets, they all live in their palaces, they roam around in their cars. They’re done, now they are resting,” she said, referring to the veteran actor’s unfamiliarity with paparazzi culture. The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani ensemble included Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi, but it was Bachchan with whom Anjali shared most of her scenes — and, as she recalls, the most laughter. Revealing the warmth behind Bachchan’s no-nonsense image, Anjali shared heartwarming details from their time on set. “She’s a sweetheart, she has fed me when I’m hungry. She has made me laugh in the middle of scenes. We used to hang out the most. I used to hang out only with her because all my scenes were with her,” she said. Anjali described Bachchan as spontaneous and witty, someone who could easily lighten the atmosphere on set. “It’s so much fun, she’s such a fun person — the first thing she’ll do when she comes is pull everyone’s leg. And she’ll say the funniest of things. She’s not even 1% of what people show … not at all,” she added. Over the years, Jaya Bachchan has earned a reputation for being candid and occasionally confrontational, particularly with photographers or fans invading her personal space.
