Ange Postecoglou has been backed to make a sensational return to Celtic after Brendan Rodgers' bombshell exit. Parkhead chiefs are hunting for a new manager after Rodgers walked away for a second time following a bitter fallout with the board. Rodgers was lambasted by principal shareholder Dermot Desmond in a blistering statement for turning the crisis-hit club TOXIC in an astonishing character assassination. Legendary gaffer Martin O'Neill has made an incredible comeback to Celtic Park as caretaker boss after six years out of management and will be assisted by Shaun Maloney until a permanent successor is appointed. Out of work Postecoglou was immediately installed as the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Rodgers on Monday night - two-and-a-half years after packing his bags for Tottenham. And ex-striker Sutton reckons the Europa League-winning Aussie - who was this month axed by Nottingham Forest after just 39 days in charge - will be top of every Celtic fan's wishlist. He told Sky Sports: "Yeah, I think so. I think Ange Postecoglou would be a really smart appointment. "He was loved first time around. His brand of football went down well in Glasgow. "He's out of work. I think that would be a pretty obvious choice, but a good choice and bring plenty of positivity back to Celtic which they need right now." Postecoglou enjoyed a remarkable two years at Parkhead after replacing sacked Neil Lennon in 2021, winning a Double in his debut season before signing out with a historic Treble in 2023.
