With the holiday season right around the corner, many major retailers are gearing up for the busiest time of year — including Amazon. In a nationwide holiday-hiring initiative, the company announced plans to fill 250,000 full-time and part-time positions. “The holidays are one of the most exciting times at Amazon — both because of the joy our customers feel, and because it’s when we welcome thousands of new teammates into our network," the company said in a statement. “This year, we’re hiring for 250,000 full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions throughout our fulfillment and transportation network across the U.S.” Read more: Major retailer to hire 5,000+ employees in Mass. ahead of the holidays: Wage, benefits and more The company will post new job openings weekly from October through December with opportunities in its fulfillment and transportation network. According to Amazon, seasonal employees will earn an average of over $19 per hour, while regular full-time and part-time employees will earn an average of $23 per hour with benefits. “We find that our seasonal roles are really popular — often filling up within minutes of being posted — because they meet different needs for so many different people,“ the company said. ”For some, it’s a few months of extra income to support their families during the holidays. Employees who stay with the company in regular full-time positions have access to a range of benefits, including health care and educational programs such as Career Choice, which pre-pays tuition for college degrees or certificates. Seasonal employees can also see their pay increase significantly as they grow with the company. According to Amazon, in some instances, someone who’s been with the company for three years sees an average pay increase of 18%. Additionally, the company said it is investing over $1 billion in pay and benefits for its fulfillment and transportation employees this year — bringing the average total compensation to more than $30 per hour, including elected benefits.
