Ally McCoist Labels Rangers’ Youssef Chermiti ‘Miles Off It’ After Roma Loss

Ally McCoist has hit out at Youssef Chermiti's performance against Roma, saying that the striker was 'miles off it'. Rangers endured another torrid night at Ibrox as they welcomed the Italian giants to Glasgow and fell to an uncomfortable 2-0 defeat on home turf. That result makes it back-to-back defeats for Danny Rohl's side and ensures that Rangers' awful start to the Europa League campaign continues. That's because the Scottish side have lost four out of four games, conceding eight goals and scoring just once. Given that they've faced Genk, Sturm Graz and Brann before this, zero is a point tally that highlights a significant decline in Rangers' credentials on the European stage. Ally McCoist: Rangers Are Getting Worse Rangers' poor results of late are the end product of a worrying downward trend at one of football's most iconic clubs. According to club legend Ally McCoist, it all comes down to the club's poor recruitment record in recent years. Speaking on TNT Sports, McCoist said: "I have a question: Have Rangers signed anybody that is better than what they've let go? I don't think they have. By the way, I include (Leon) Balogun at centre-back. I think he's a better centre-back (than what Rangers have now)." McCoist's claim came after the 37-year-old was allowed to leave on a free transfer to Cypriot side Aris Limassol. He then took aim at one of the club's newest signings. "You lose (Vaclav) Cerny, (Cyriel) Dessers, (Hamza) Igamane — that's 60-plus goals out of your team. "The big fella, Chermiti, I genuinely hope that he's going to score a lot of goals, but he is miles off it at this moment in time - miles off it." While not the only underperforming star at the moment, Chermiti's displays have attracted unwanted criticism. A £10million signing from Everton, the 21-year-old arrived with big expectations as a replacement for Igamane and Dessers following their moves to Lille and Panathinaikos respectively. Unfortunately for Chermiti, life in Glasgow has been hard after scoring just one goal in 12 appearances for the club so far.
