During the most recent instalment of This Morning , ITV audiences witnessed Alison Hammond provide a family update regarding her relatives in Jamaica amid Hurricane Melissa's devastation. Throughout the programme, which has recently seen presenters deliver some heartbreaking breaking news, Alison and Dermot O'Leary discussed current affairs alongside Kay Burley and Tom Swarbrick. Among the topics was the devastating Hurricane Melissa, which wreaked absolute chaos across Jamaica as a catastrophic category 5 storm - the most powerful to batter the island. Despite wind speeds diminishing upon landfall, enormous destruction was unleashed. The Hurricane is understood to be losing strength during its journey, having downgraded to category three upon reaching Cuba and is anticipated to become a category two storm when it arrives at the Bahamas, reports the Mirror . Discussing the Hurricane on This Morning, Kay remarked: "I didn't realise you were from Jamaica. Everything okay with the Hurricane?" Alison responded: "We were talking about it today actually, I haven't been in contact with most of my family at the moment so we're just waiting to hear from there." Kay added: "It's still dark, isn't it?" The This Morning presenter replied: "Thank you for asking, it's awful. It has moved on now." Offering support to Alison, Kay continued: "I hope everything is okay." The Hurricane barrelled in from the Atlantic carrying winds of 185mph and has tragically claimed at least seven lives. Properties across the Caribbean island have been demolished alongside severe flash flooding. A crisis centre has been established to assist Britons on the Caribbean island, as detailed by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in the Commons. She stated: "Melissa is potentially the most severe storm ever to hit the country. "Many people will be thinking of family and friends in Jamaica and in the region. We are also positioning specialist rapid deployment teams to provide consular assistance to British nationals in the region. Any British nationals who are there should follow our travel advice and the advice of the Jamaican authorities. "There are 50,000 dual nationals who live in Jamaica, up to 8,000 British citizens who may be travelling there or may be on holiday there. We do stand ready to help and respond." This Morning is available to watch on ITVX.
