Ryanair making major boarding pass change in 17 days - everything you need to know

Ryanair passengers will see a major change implemented from November 12. The airline will begin to issue '100 per cent Digital Boarding Passes'. As the change comes into force, physical tickets will generally not be accepted at most airports, The Express reports. READ MORE: 'Unusual' Next cardigan is 'eye catching' and 'lovely for autumn days' The initiative, which aims to eradicate certain fees and save paper, was originally planned for May. However the new scheme does raise some questions - and you'll find everything you need to know below, based on official information from Ryanair . Online check in can be completed at Ryanair.com or via the Ryanair App. Passengers should complete this process prior to arriving at the airport to avoid additional charges. Once check-in has been completed, a DBP will automatically appear in the Ryanair App, which can be presented at both airport security and the boarding gate. Ryanair's chief executive Michael O'Leary has insisted it won't prevent travellers from boarding their flight. He told The Independent's daily travel podcast: "The big concern that people have is: 'What happens if I lose my battery or what if I lose my phone?' "If you lose your phone, no issue. As long as you've checked in before you got to the airport, we'll reissue a paper boarding pass at the airport free of charge." Mr O'Leary said airport staff would have access to each passenger's 'sequence number' at the departure gate and stressed 'nobody should worry'. Ryanair said once passengers have completed online check-in, their DBP will remain accessible offline within the Ryanair App. Website guidance stated: "All Ryanair passengers will still receive email reminders to check-in online 48 and 24hrs predeparture. "If any passenger arrives at airport but hasn't checked in online (having ignored these reminders), they will still be required to pay the airport check-in fee." The current airport check-in fee is set at £55/€55 per passenger for most flights. However, passengers flying out of Spain are obliged to pay £30/€30, while those departing from Austria will be hit with a £40/€40 charge.
