Alex McKinnon and partner Lily Malone announce engagement

The 33-year-old proposed to his 23-year-old partner during a trip to Europe, with the pair revealing the news on Sunday in a joint Instagram post. In the caption, Malone shared that he had popped the question on October 28, and to commemorate the landmark moment, the loved-up couple shared a gallery of photos, showing off the ring in front of various French landmarks, such as the Louvre. She also shared a close-up of the ring, a large diamond on a quaint gold band. The joint post was immediately flooded with congratulatory messages from family and many of McKinnon’s former teammates and rivals. Knights backrower Adam Elliott and former NRL star Trent Merrin both wrote, “Congrats brother”. Newcastle great Danny Buderus’ wife Kris added: “Congratulations guys, beautiful news.” While a member of Malone’s family commented, “To say we are excited is an understatement. You two are very special.” “We are so happy for you and welcome you into our family Alex.” The couple revealed their budding romance last year, with a photo together on social media with their arms around each other in March 2024. They then pointed to their impending engagement in early October, with Malone sharing a video of them enjoying a wine and sharing a kiss on TikTok in early October. The caption read: “Surely I’m not the only one who thinks my hand would look a lot better with a ring on it.” That clip was shared by McKinnon on his Instagram story. McKinnon’s engagement to Malone comes after he split from his ex-wife, Teigan Power, in January 2022 after five years of marriage. The former Knights forward proposed to his high school sweetheart from his hospital bed just days after his footy career was heartbreakingly cut short in March 2014, when he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury during a match against the Storm. McKinnon sustained fractures to his C4 and C5 vertebrae after being driven headfirst into the ground, in an incident that left him a quadriplegic. McKinnon and Power tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Newcastle and have three kids together, twins Audrey and Violet, and eldest daughter Harriet. Ultimately, they would amicably split at the start of 2022 and since then have continued to co-parent their children as they went their separate ways. Like McKinnon, Power also has a new partner, Jake Nelson, and they recently welcomed their first child together, a son named Wyatt.
