Urgent recalls have been issued for two of the UK's most popular supermarkets. Budget favourites Aldi and Lidl have both had products pulled from the shelves in recent days. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) often makes shoppers aware of certain product recalls. This could be due to multiple reasons that make them "unsafe to eat." Over the weekend, the food safety watchdog has issued a couple of UK-wide alerts that Aldi and Lidl shoppers will need to be aware of, with bakery items and sweet treats affected. On Saturday, October 18, Aldi issued a major recall for a six-pack of its PYB02 PANATAS Part-Baked Custard Tarts as they were found to contain multiple undeclared ingredients, posing a major health risk to certain consumers. The popular bakery treats contain egg, milk, and wheat (gluten), while also possibly containing hazelnuts, sesame and soya, making them unsuitable for anyone with allergies or intolerances to any of these ingredients that are not mentioned on the packaging. Information from the FSA alert shares that all best before dates of the six-pack of Part-Baked Custard Tarts have been affected, with shoppers being urged not to eat if they have bought them. Instead, they are being advised to return the tarts to the Aldi store from which it was bought, where a full refund will be provided. Aldi said in its recall notice: "As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling PYB02 PANATAS Part-Baked 6 Pack because the product contains the allergens egg, milk and wheat and may contain hazelnut, soya and sesame, which are not listed on the packaging. "Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given. We apologise this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation. It comes just days after the supermarket issued a recall for its 30 Day Matured Thin Cut Beef Steaks due to undeclared milk, with a 360g pack-size and use-by date of October 26, 2025 affected. Meanwhile, it's not the only allergy alert to be issued by the FSA recently, as rival supermarket Lidl is recalling its XXL Sondey Stroopwaffel with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter due to the "possible presence of metal." An alert posted to the food safety website on Friday, October 17, advises that a 560g pack-size has been affected, alongside the best before dates of November 21, 2025, December 2, 2025 and December 3, 2025. Customers have since been advised not to consume the stroopwaffles as the possible presence of foreign bodies "may present a risk of injury" to consumers. Instead, Lidl shoppers are being urged to return the affected products to return it to the store it was bought from where they will receive a full refund. Lidl's recall notice read: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation. "For further information, contact Customer Care on customer.care@lidl.co.uk or 0203 966 5566." Aldi and Lidl have since both issued point of sale notices to all stores selling the recalled products. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and what to do if they have bought it.
