AI’s next victim? Expert predicts Salesforce collapse; sparks debate

Artificial intelligence (AI) is said to be the biggest driver of economic change in the future. From technology advancements to concerns like job loss, AI is said to reshape the global landscape. While it promises innovation and efficiency, experts have been warning against mass job losses, and unemployment due to AI. The AI threat has now grown from predictions of certain industries becoming obsolete to entire companies getting wiped out. Renowned Computer Science professor Pedro Domingos has made a striking prediction on X (formerly Twitter). Domingos, professor emeritus of computer science and engineering at the University of Washington and the author of 2040 and The Master Algorithm said that the “first big tech company to be destroyed by AI will be Salesforce.”His statement generated a wave of online discussion with many users commenting on the post with over 400K views. When an X user asked “so you think CRM is easy”, Pedro Domingos replied “No, I think it could be way better.”Pedro Domingos’ post sparks discussionA user commented on the post writing “They’re vulnerable because CRM is fundamentally about data capture and retrieval. AI does both better and faster. Unlike Adobe or Microsoft where the creative tools have decades of muscle memory, nobody has muscle memory for filling out Opportunity fields. It’s pure friction.”Another user disagreed with Domingos’ opinion, writing “Nope. Salesforce has very good connections with traditional corps. They just need to repackage LLMs into their product and sell to current customers (who almost never change providers). And they are doing it actively: Missionforce, Agent Fabric, Agentforce Vibes…”“Every major BigSaaS platform will be disrupted. The economics of software products have completely shifted, and they are simply not operationally positioned, or nimble enough, to respond to what is coming,” wrote a third user.“Totally agree. The whole point of these software that offered a lot of customizations were to address better specific customer process. With AI you can have something really tailored made to your needs and process,” commented another.
