From Mediterranean cuisine to coffee and a spa, these businesses are transforming a Bay Area city's downtown area. HAYWARD, CA — A variety of businesses are taking over Hayward's downtown area and looking to help revitalize the city. Among those businesses is Storybook, a California Mediterranean restaurant with a modern influence. Courtney Jackson, who is the general manager of Storybook, said one of the appeals of Hayward is its diversity. So with Storybook, Jackson and its owner wanted to create a restaurant where everyone could feel included, whether it was for a date, drinks or a family gathering. Storybook will have a fantasy theme and twist, Jackson told Patch, with art hanging in the space. Jackson said they are expecting to open the new restaurant by the end of the year. "I'm really excited to bring something fun and new to B Street," Jackson said. "It's something new and fresh." Other restaurants soon opening in Downtown Hayward include: Con Azúcar Café — A shop inspired by Mexican culture and tradition with rich coffee and a warm atmosphere Rummi Bakery — This business is expanding from the well-known Rummi Mart. It'll offer fresh Afghan bread and other grab-and-go bites. Teriyaki City Grill — A fast-casual Japanese restaurant with everything from ribeye and chicken to tofu, made fresh to order. These restaurants, meanwhile, have recently opened in Downtown Hayward: Obento — A grab-and-go spot offering Japanese-style bento boxes. Tang Jip — This restaurant just opened in August and offers Korean cuisine, including barbecue. Sin Frontera Restaurant — This restaurant opened earlier this year and offers a blend of Mexican and Honduran flavors. Gurkha Kitchen — An all-you-can-eat Indian and Nepalese buffet offering traditional dishes Tram Cream Coffee — It opened this past summer and offers Vietnamese coffee with a modern twist. Mai Nails & Spa — An upscale beauty salon that offers personalized services.
