Some of my favorite Hallmark films that revolve family, and their hijinks include Five Star Christmas, A Merry Scottish Christmas, and Christmas at the Golden Dragon all center around family (with maybe a little romance thrown in). This year, A Keller Christmas Vacation fills that spot when three siblings join their parents on a cruise down the Danube River. Christmas this year is going to be a little different for the Keller family, as parents, Anne (Laurel Lefkow) and Ben (Nigel Whitmey), buy their three adult children – oldest son, Cal (Brandon Routh), middle son, Dylan (Jonathan Bennett) and daughter, Emory (Eden Sher) – a river cruise down the Danube River from Germany, through Salzburg, to Vienna touring beautiful European Christmas Markets and towns along the way. The one problem? The very different siblings, who are each going through their own personal life challenges, have naturally gone in separate directions over the years and the idea of spending 10 days cooped up on a river cruise together makes each Keller child cringe for their own reasons. But they say “yes” because that’s what families do, never expecting it to turn out to be a glorious once-in-a-lifetime experience full of missed connections, new friendships, stunning vistas, relationship upheaval, budding romances, shipboard games, family bonding, and a secret that brings them all together in time for Christmas. Brandon Routh (Cal) The Nine Lives of Christmas was Brandon Routh’s first film for Hallmark Channel. It was so popular in the holiday rotation that a second film, The Nine Kittens of Christmas was made. He is best known for his superhero roles—he was Superman in the film, Superman Returns and as Ray Palmer/The Atom on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and within the Arrowverse. Fun fact: Routh is married to actress Courtney Ford, who played Nora Darhk on Legends of Tomorrow. He has starred in several movies for Hallmark, including Christmas on Cherry Lane, The Holiday Sitter, Wedding of a Lifetime, and The Christmas House. He also came up with the concept and stars in The Groomsmen trilogy. Bennett is currently the host of Hallmark’s reality competition series, Finding Mr. Christmas.
