A doubling of speed and surveillance cameras for Mallorca's roads

The Council of Mallorca has announced that there are to be 64 speed cameras and 20 sound level meters on the roads of the Tramuntana Mountains. With these, it is hoped that illegal races can be stopped and excessive noise prevented. The Council will in all be investing 1.2 million euros in the purchase of 105 speed cameras and vehicle counters, 105 surveillance cameras and 20 sound level meters. The updated system is expected to be operational throughout the island by the end of 2026. The approval of the project has come later than planned because it was necessary for the traffic directorate to approve the cameras. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to use cameras to impose fines. Map of the expanded network of cameras. Consell de Mallorca. The project initially focused only on the Tramuntana roads and was for some 30 cameras. However, it has been extended to other parts of Mallorca at the request of the Balearic Government, the Guardia Civil and town halls. Under the project, old cameras that were only for counting vehicles will all be replaced and the total number of controls will double from the existing 53 to 105.
