75% Delhi-NCR Households Down With Viral Fever! We Ask Doctor The Symptoms, Causes And Protection Tips

According to a recent report by LocalCircles, the Delhi NCR region saw 75% of its households grappling with fever and viral illness on October 28, 2025. The report read, "When comparing the results over the last one month, there has been considerable increase in the number of households where one or more individuals are down with covid/ flu/ viral fever like symptoms." The report further attributed air pollution and weather changes as the reason for this illness. As a result, the air quality index levels have hit the 400-500 range in most parts of Delhi NCR. The particulate matter 2.5 levels were touching nearly 350 now, far away from the safe levels under 35. As illnesses surge in Delhi-NCR, we spoke to Dr Ronak Khandelwal, Consultant - Obstetrics, Motherhood Hospitals, Greater Noida about the symptoms, causes and measures to stay protected. Why This Sudden Surge? The sudden rise is due to changing weather, high pollution levels and weakened immunity. The drop in temperature, along with post-monsoon humidity creates an environment for viruses to spread rapidly through air and surface contact. So, everyone should stay safe and exercise caution. How Is Air Pollution Worsening The Situation?Air pollution weakens the respiratory system, making it easier for viruses and bacteria to enter the body. Polluted air irritates the nose, throat, and lungs, lowering natural defenses. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) also traps allergens and germs, worsening infections like cold, cough, and bronchitis. So, it is better to avoid venturing out when the air quality is poor.
