The Instituto Alicantino de Cultura Juan Gil-Albert has launched a dynamic initiative to promote urban art through a series of collaborative mural workshops across Alicante province. This project aims to engage local communities in the creation of permanent public artworks, fostering cultural expression and civic participation. Collaborative Mural Workshops Across Alicante The cycle of workshops commenced on October 25, 2025, in Tibi, with renowned illustrator and urban artist Cristina Salas leading the session. Salas is celebrated for her mural “Stay True” in Elche’s Víbora Project and has participated in festivals such as Azada Fest and Xekin Festival. The second session is scheduled for November 8 in Albatera, featuring the acclaimed graffiti artist Rosh333, known for his 300-meter mural in homage to Paco de Lucía in Madrid’s metro station. The final workshop will take place on November 22 in Pilar de la Horadada, guided by international artist Antonyo Marest, who has showcased his work in cities including Madrid, New York, and Los Angeles. Community Engagement and Artistic Expression These workshops are designed as participatory events where community members collaborate with professional artists to create murals that reflect local identity and creativity. Each session includes a formative meeting and a collective mural action, resulting in permanent artworks in public spaces. The municipalities of Tibi, Albatera, and Pilar de la Horadada have provided the venues for these interventions: the Municipal Auditorium in Tibi, a wall in Albatera, and the main facade of the Music Conservatory in Pilar de la Horadada. A Commitment to Cultural Development This initiative underscores the Instituto Gil-Albert’s commitment to fostering cultural development and community involvement through the arts. By integrating urban art into public spaces, the project not only beautifies the environment but also encourages dialogue and collaboration among residents. The collaborative nature of the workshops ensures that the artworks resonate with the local community, creating a sense of ownership and pride. Looking Ahead As the workshops progress, the Instituto Gil-Albert plans to expand similar initiatives throughout the province, aiming to involve more communities in the creation of public art. These efforts contribute to the broader cultural landscape of Alicante, highlighting the importance of art in public spaces and its role in community cohesion.
