5 fun things to do in Hong Kong this weekend, October 31 to November 2

The end of one month and the start of another is ripe with opportunity. You might find yourself itching to shake up your routine by attending a fun event or finally diving into that long-delayed hobby. After a wild Halloween night out, you might opt for a mocktail or some weekend fitness to balance things out. But whether you want to continue the fun with a night of exhilarating performances or stay home to recharge, there is always something to do in Hong Kong. Here are five things to do this weekend. 1. Movember and Crossip mocktails This November, premier non-alcoholic spirit Crossip and its Hong Kong distribution partner, Spiritu, are launching the “Clear Head, Strong Cause” campaign. This month-long initiative is dedicated to supporting men’s mental health for the annual Movember campaign, in partnership with Mind HK, a local organisation aiming to remove the stigma surrounding mental illness. A portion of the proceeds from each mocktail will be donated directly to Mind HK. From November 1 to 30, an elite line-up of Hong Kong’s best bars will champion the mindful drinking movement by offering Crossip cocktails. Hongkongers have got a long list of spots to choose from, including AER, Bobby’s Rabble, Corks (Causeway Bay and Sheung Wan), Courtroom, Dead Poets, Friday After Class, Gossip, Honky Tonks, Kinsman, Mirage Bar & Restaurant, Socio and The Aubrey. Each venue has crafted a unique zero-alcohol drink that showcases Crossip’s bold flavours. Not only will they be tasty treats for the weekend, but you can also take part in the important cause of Movember by visiting any of the bars taking part. 2. Stanley 1913 at Harbour City For those still caught up in the Stanley cup craze, the wait is finally over. Stanley 1913, the iconic drinkware brand, has officially launched its first physical store in Hong Kong, bringing its celebrated range directly to fans. Located in Harbour City’s Lane Crawford, this new store showcases the extensive range of tumblers, cups and mugs, with prices beginning at HK$238 (US$31). Once you have acquired your new Stanley product, the store offers knitted bottle caps, beaded straps and engraving at an additional cost. Lane Crawford, Harbour City, 3 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui 3. Tango after Dark Prepare to be transported to the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires as “Tango After Dark” brings an electrifying and theatrical weekend of Argentinian tango to Hong Kong. International tango superstar and world champion German Cornejo will lead this spectacular production. Renowned for his innovative choreography, Cornejo leads a cast of 10 talented dancers alongside a live band, which will perform compositions by musician Astor Piazzolla. Tickets for performances on October 31 and November 1 are available at the LCSD website, ranging from HK$220 to HK$580. Additionally, tickets for their dance workshops on November 1 and 2 cost HK$220. These workshops provide an opportunity for both beginners and experienced dancers to learn from the masters. Hong Kong Cultural Centre, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui 4. Lifestyle goods at Soho Market Every weekend in November, fitness lovers can explore the Soho Market at Discovery Park, which features health and sports-related goods. Visitors will find everything from luxurious natural skincare products and essential oil candles to soothing aromatherapy sprays and a diverse array of herbal teas. Shoppers looking for eco-friendly and handmade products can pick up trinkets including woven keychains, charming fabric crafts, healthy snacks and hand-painted mandala cards. From noon to 8pm every weekend until November 30, head out to Discovery Park to support local artists and introduce healthy diet and exercise habits into your life. Discovery Park, 398 Castle Peak Road, Tsuen Wan 5. Another World This animated feature contemplates the limits of goodness in the face of great evil, set against a vibrant action fantasy backdrop. Adapted from Naka Saijo’s novel Sennenki: Thousand-Year Journey of an Oni with both narrative flair and visual potency, this impressive effort by first-time director Tommy Ng Kai-chung and writer-producer Polly Yeung Po-man is an anomaly in more ways than one. Although the film’s focus on reincarnation appears to align it with Eastern religions, Another World’s belief in kindness renders it a universally engaging watch. Young children should stay away, however, as they might be scarred by some of the shockingly grisly moments in this macabre tale. Leading us into the afterlife is one of its spirit guides, Gudo (voiced by Chung Suet-ying), who is tasked with helping deceased souls let go of their memories and escorting them past a magical waterfall into the next life. His latest charge is a girl who is not aware that she has died. Read our full review Another World is in cinemas now. Find this useful? Look out for our recommendations every Friday online.
