294 Swinburne Sarawak graduates receive scrolls at October 2025 convocation

By Shikin Louis KUCHING, Oct 30: A total of 294 graduates from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak) received their scrolls at the university’s October 2025 graduation ceremony held today at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). The ceremony saw 245 undergraduate degrees awarded, including 102 in business, 43 in computer science, 36 in engineering, 32 in design, six in information and communication technology, nine in media and communication, 15 in science, and two double degrees in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Robotics and Mechatronics) and Bachelor of Computer Science. Nine graduates received the Diploma of Business Management, while 28 graduates were awarded master’s degrees and 12 graduates received Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in various fields including business, engineering, humanities, arts and social sciences, information and communication technology, and science. The master’s degree recipients comprised 21 from the Master of Business Administration (International), two from the Master of Business (Research) and one each from the Master of Construction Management, Master of Information Technology, Master of Engineering (Research), Master of Information and Communication Technologies (Research), and Master of Science (Research). Graduates came from across Malaysia as well as Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Gabon, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Myanmar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Turkmenistan, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Another 38 graduates received their awards in absentia. Valedictorian Gavin Ng, who graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science, encouraged his peers to continue learning and contributing to society. “Keep chasing your goals, stay humble and give back whenever you can. Change is never easy—nor should it be—but it’s what helps you grow. “Regardless of the end result, accept it for what it is, and remember that what matters most is how you choose to move forward. “Build a life and become the kind of person who can look back with no regrets—one step at a time,” said Ng. The ceremony was graced by the Sarawak Premier and Pro-Chancellor of Swinburne Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg, and presided over by Swinburne University of Technology Chancellor Professor John Pollaers OAM, who presented the awards to graduates. Also in attendance were Swinburne Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pascale Quester; Swinburne Sarawak Board of Directors chairman Datuk Amar Jaul Samion; Swinburne Sarawak Pro Vice-Chancellor and chief executive officer Professor Lau Hieng Ho; and Australian High Commission Malaysia Counsellor (Education and Research), Sophie Horgan. The ceremony was also livestreamed on Swinburne Sarawak’s official YouTube channel to enable families and friends to join the event virtually. This year marks Swinburne Sarawak’s 25th anniversary, highlighting its role in providing quality education, promoting research and supporting industry collaboration. Swinburne, based in Melbourne, Australia, is ranked among the world’s top 300 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. Its Sarawak Campus in Kuching remains the university’s only full-fledged international branch campus. — DayakDaily
