The 5 to 7-year-olds and 9 to 12-year-olds will represent the North Penn region on the national stage. LANSDALE, PA — Two of the Lansdale Cannoneers youth cheerleading squads won regional competitions and will head to the national championship competition early next year. The Tiny Mite Cheer Team, featuring athletes between the ages of 5 and 7, won both the BuxMont and regional championships to qualify for nationals. The Pee-Wee Cheer Team, for ages 9 to 12, also won BuxMont and placed second in regionals. “These athletes have shown incredible dedication, practicing multiple times each week since summer,” Lansdale Cannoneers President Jim Laky told Patch. "Their teamwork and commitment truly reflect the Cannoneer spirit.” Both teams, of 24 athletes each, will head to the National Cheer Competition in Charlotte, North Carolina on Dec. 7. The Varsity Cheer Team has not yet qualified for nationals, but they will also travel to Charlotte to battle in a Last Chance Qualifier. If they place high enough at that competition, they can advance. The Cannoneers need help raising funds for travel and lodging. A designer bag bingo event is set for Nov. 15. Cannoneers football squads wrap up strong season The 8 and under Cannoneers football team is heading to their own league championship after a nail-biting, ferocious, come-from-behind victory over Abington in the semifinals. The Cannoneers boys were trailing 6-0 at halftime. Coaches fired them up during the break and they came out fighting. "The players remembered who they were and what they came to do,” coaches said. “Their effort and heart made all the difference." The championship game is set for 10 a.m. at Quakertown's Youth Field. Both of the Cannoneers' 11 and under teams also advanced to the semifinal rounds of the playoffs. A fixture in the North Penn area community for more than 60 years, the Cannoneers have had thousands of children pass through their many programs over the decades.
