It’s not uncommon for teams to get into postgame altercations or minor spats during a competitive game with a lot at stake, but the Texas State Bobcats and Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns took things to another level on Saturday during their matchup in Lafayette. Louisiana came away with a 42-39 victory, holding off a near-shocking comeback from Texas State, which scored 21 unanswered points in the final 12 minutes to make it a three-point game. However, moments after the final whistle, a massive brawl broke out at midfield involving several players from both teams. According to reports, the scuffle was initiated by Texas State, though it quickly escalated as players from both sides got involved. On Monday, the Sun Belt Conference announced that 13 players had been suspended for their roles in the incident — seven from Louisiana and six from Texas State. Louisiana’s Tyree Skipper received the most severe punishment, being suspended for the remainder of the season, including any potential bowl game. Every other player received a one-game suspension, except for Texas State’s Tymere Jackson, who was handed a two-game suspension.
