A total of 128 candidates have filed their nominations for the upcoming Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections, marking a vibrant contest for all four central panel posts.According to the JNU Election Committee, 34 candidates have filed nominations for the post of President, 29 for Vice-President, 31 for General Secretary and 34 for Joint Secretary.The withdrawal of nominations will take place on Wednesday, October 29, between 10 am and 1 pm. The final list of contesting candidates will be released the same day by 2 pm.Major student organisations in the fray include the All India Students Association (AISA), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Students Federation of India (SFI) and the National Students Union of India (NSUI). Several independent candidates are also expected to contest, further widening the field.Polling will be held on November 4, while counting of votes and declaration of results are scheduled for November 6.Officials expect a high voter turnout this year. Campaigns are likely to focus on issues such as campus autonomy, hostel facilities and academic freedom. As campaigning intensifies, JNU is once again set to become a hub of student politics, echoing with slogans, posters, and debates that have long defined its vibrant democratic culture.
