Chelsea have just beaten Wolves 3-0 at Stamford Bridge after a much improved second half. There was a few Blues who did really well – Malo Gusto got his first goal for the club, Estevao got an assist a minute after coming on and Alejandro Garnacho set up two. But on Sky Sports it came down to co-commentator Alan Smith to decide the man of the match, and he was in little doubt about his choice: “Enzo Fernandez is my player of the match. He has led by example with his quality,” the pundit said. Fernandez controls the game Enzo was indeed excellent. He finished the first half with a 100% pass completion rate, including some really clever and creative efforts, and he upped that again in the second period. While he didn’t get an assist himself, he was the team’s key player in attack, moving the ball forward with excellent passing. He completed 60 of 62 at the final count. He had an xG of 0.22 and an xA of 0.55. He created 2 chances, with 11 passes into the final third and 78 touches. He hit 2 shots on target. All four of his long balls were accurate, which really is impressive. Defensively, he mad 8 contributions by FotMob’s count. If he could play with this much freedom and ingenuity every week we’d be laughing. Unfortunately for us, he now heads off on international duty to play with Argentina. Talk about bad timing… In other news… The game had effectively been killed off when Chelsea lanced in two quick strikes in the second half, with Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto getting on the scoresheets after nice assists from Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao. Malo Gusto opened the scoring with his first senior goal, a header at the back post after a great cross from Alejandro Garnacho.
