“IOC ultimately stripping athletes of their gold medals” -Riley Gaines calls for action as governing body bans trans athletes in women’s sports

Riley Gaines called out for stricter actions as the International Olympic Committee plans to ban transgender athletes from competing in women's sports at the Games. Until now, each sport has had the right to decide if transgender athletes could compete in the event. However, now the committee aims to have the same rules for all sports and athletes. It is yet to be seen whether the new changes impose a ban on athletes with reported differences of sexual development (DSD), including Olympic medalist Imane Khelif, who has male chromosomes but was raised as a female. As the IOC announced its decision, Gaines highlighted the 2024 Paris Games results, suggesting the Committee should strip Khelif and Yu-Ting of their medals. "Back to the 2024 Olympics, in the sport of women's boxing, you know the sport where the goal, the intention, is to knock your opponent unconscious by physically pummeling them in the face. There was a male, actually two males, who won gold medals in their respective weight categories in the women's division. Both of these athletes have been proven to be male by their medical records. Yet, they still have their gold medal."She added:"I think the next step in accountability and transparency is the IOC ultimately stripping both of these athletes of their gold medals and giving them to the rightful female winner, and issuing a personalized apology to every female athlete they failed in the process."Khelif and Yu-Ting won gold medals in the women's 66kg and 57kg boxing categories, respectively. They were allowed to compete at the Olympic Games, months after they failed a gender test at the 2023 World Championships. After the Paris Olympics victory, Khelif was poised to return to international competition at the Eindhoven Box Cup in the Netherlands. Only a week before the competition, the World Boxing made sex testing compulsory for all athletes. Riley Gaines criticized the Algerian boxer for pulling out of the competition after the World Boxing's decision. "To all the people that insisted Imane Khelif was a woman because his passport said so, you were wrong," Gaines wrote. "We were right. Sincerely, People with functioning eyes and a shred of honesty.""Cool, now strip his women's Olympic gold medal," Ganies added.Khelif was specifically asked to undergo the test by the federation.
