As the Indian women’s team lifted the 2025 ICC World Cup trophy, cricket legend and former Indian men’s team skipper Sunil Gavaskar fulfilled a heartwarming promise to star batter Jemimah Rodrigues. After India’s semi-final win over Australia, where Jemimah played a match-winning knock of 127 not out, Gavaskar had declared that he would sing a duet with the 25-year-old if India went on to win the World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team lived up to that belief, defeating South Africa in the final to clinch their desired title. Following the victory, Jemimah took to social media to remind Gavaskar of his promise. True to his word, Gavaskar responded with a congratulatory video message and confirmed that the duet would happen soon. “Hi Jemimah, first of all, many congratulations to you and your team for winning the ICC Women’s World Cup. This is a tremendous moment — one to cherish and remember for ages. For all the happiness and joy you’ve given the Indian cricket community and fans, I can’t thank you enough,” Gavaskar said in his message. “Yes, I do remember my promise. I was always confident you would bring home the trophy. You get the guitar, and I’ll sing the song — I already have one prepared! You tell me the date, maybe this weekend. Looking forward to it!” he added. The duo previously performed together at the BCCI Naman Awards in 2024, when they surprised the audience with an impromptu rendition of Kya Hua Tera Vaada. Jemimah strummed her guitar as Gavaskar sang, drawing cheers from the crowd. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Sports, Cricket and around the world.
