‘You can’t!’ Catherine Tyldesley responds to Coronation Street legend re-cast rumour

Catherine Tyldesley opens up about the potential return of her family members with new faces (Picture: ITV) When Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) first arrived in Coronation Street, she made up a third of a triumvirate, alongside mum, Stella (Michelle Collins) and grandmother, Gloria (Sue Johnston), who took over the streets iconic boozer, the Rover’s Return. While Stella and Gloria departed in 2014, with the former heading stateside to take a job in New York, before settling in the south of France, and the latter leaving to travel the world, Eva remained a fixture on the cobbles until 2018, before she and daughter Suzy (then-Edison and Isaac Manning) packed up to join Stella abroad. Eva has since made a much-welcomed return to Weatherfield, once again taking charge of the Rover’s, alongside Suzy (now-Aurora Bradshaw) and her new family, Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker), his two sons, Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike), and his fearsome mother, Maggie (Pauline McLynn). Since Eva’s lauded comeback, fans have questioned whether or not Stella and Gloria would join her, perhaps, in Stella’s case, with a face-switch, as actress Michelle has since reprised her role as Cindy Beale in rival soap EastEnders. Catherine has opened up on her thoughts over a potential re-cast. Could Stella Price ever be recast in Coronation Street? Catherine said Michelle is too iconic to be re-cast (Picture: ITV/REX/Shutterstock) ‘You can’t! Can you? That woman, there is not many people who have appeared in two soaps, she’s super iconic!’ Michelle herself recently shot down the notion of reprising her former Corrie role: ‘I don’t think EastEnders would let me go across, would they?’, Michelle told Metro at this year’s Inside Soap Awards. ‘I know it’s only two and a half hours on the train. Actually that might be quite funny, going from Cindy to Stella in like a day. But no, I don’t think so. I think Cath will do a good job. She’s running the pub, isn’t she? I shall be watching because I love Cath and she told me she was going back, so I’m very excited for her. It’ll be great. But I don’t think so. I think it might confuse people a bit too much.’ So, it looks like we won’t be seeing Stella again, but what about grandma? Could Gloria Price ever return to Coronation Street? Could we see Gloria again? (Picture: Joseph Scanlon/ITV) Speaking on Sue Johnston, an undisputed British acting legend, and the potential that she may re-appear on the cobbles, Catherine said: ‘I did a film with her last year and I asked her would she ever go back and she said: ‘Oh my darling, if you did of course I would’ so I might just give her a call and hold her to that’. She added: ‘She’s so iconic, she is so incredible, I admired her for so many years before she came in to play my gran, I was so in awe of her the first day I met her’. Catherine went on to discuss Corrie boss Kate Brooks’ vision for the show: ‘What Kate Brooks our wonderful producer has done is bring back an old school Corrie feeling. The trio quickly became fan favourites (Picture: ITV/Shutterstock) ‘She is super passionate about that and she is a big Corrie fan and that was one of the reasons I agreed to come back, was because of her vision for the show and where she wanted to take it. ‘It’s important to move with the times but also know who your target audience is, everyone kept saying they want want that “old school Corrie vibe, we want it to be character led” and I feel the show is nailing that. ‘Finding those character led storylines, with strong women at the forefront is something Corrie has always done so well and that the audience seem to crave, and I think Kate is feeding that’. Strong women? They don’t come much stronger than Gloria, and who’d turn down the opportunity to see a showdown between her and Maggie, in a true battle of the matriarchs? Eva’s return so far… The full Driscoll/Price clan (Picture: Danielle Baguley/ITV) The Driscoll/Price clan made an immediate splash upon their return to the street, with Eva utterly delighted over the news that Ben had purchased the pub from Carla Connor (Alison King) , only to be bitterly disappointed when it transpired that caustic monster-in-law, Maggie, was the true owner. The family were thrown immediately into chaos, when youngest son Will failed to arrive, with him being declared missing. Though Will eventually showed up with in athletics coach Megan (Beth Nixon) in tow, who disclosed that she’d found him camping out in one of the changing rooms at the sports hall and had brought him straight back, though it later became apparent that she was lying, and the truth was much more disturbing.
