‘We will not stop searching:’ CofC holds prayer service for missing student

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A prayer service for Owen Kenney, the College of Charleston student who went missing in the early-morning hours of Halloween, will be held on campus Wednesday night. Hosted by the Alpha Tau Omega College of Charleston chapter, they are inviting the campus to attend and show support. Kenney was a member of the fraternity. “On behalf of Alpha Tau Omega, we want to express our deepest concern and unwavering support for our brother, Owen Kenney,” the fraternity said in a statement. “Owen is not just a member of our fraternity; he is family. His absence weighs heavily on all of us, and during this difficult time, we are united in prayer for Owen and his family.” Officers say 19-year-old Kenney was walking alone onto the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway shortly after 3 a.m. on Oct. 31. The Charleston Police Department has deployed the Underwater Recovery Team, Harbor Patrol, K9 units and their Unmanned Aerial System Team to search for Kenney. “We would like to thank the countless people who have been looking for Owen and sharing his photos on social media,” The Charleston Police Department said in a press release yesterday. “While we recognize the tremendous public interest and concern surrounding this case, it is important to remember that at the heart of this investigation is a family searching for their loved one.” The College of Charleston is also encouraging students to take advantage of its support services if needed by contacting the Counseling Center. Faculty and staff may contact AllOne Health. “Owen, if you can see this, know that we love you, we miss you, and we are holding onto hope,” the fraternity said. “We will not stop searching, praying, and believing until you are back with us.” The prayer service begins at 6 p.m. at Cistern Yard on the university’s campus. If you have any information about where Kenney might be located, please call the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and request to speak with the on-duty Central Detective.
