Renowned private legal practitioner, Thaddeus Sory, has spoken out about a social media post in which he challenged some claims made by the dismissed Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, during a press conference on the petitions that led to her removal from office. Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on October 20, 2025, Sory, who served as one of the lawyers for the petitioners, said he felt compelled to respond to the former Chief Justice because he could not believe that her remarks came from someone of her stature. He accused Justice Torkornoo of misleading the public about the substance of the petitions and the hearings that resulted in her dismissal. According to him, as a lawyer, he had a duty to respond because it was in the public interest to set the record straight. You can’t be speaking to me like a naive person – Sory speaks on clash with Torkornoo “I reacted almost 30 minutes after she did it [the press conference]. Because I thought that for a serving Chief Justice to descend that low, she was not just a Chief Justice; she was a lawyer with many years of experience who had served on the bench for 20 years, she should not be the one setting such a bad example. I had to correct that point,” he stated. He continued, “Secondly, she put out deliberate falsehoods that the public needed to know about… There are fourfold duties of a lawyer, and one of them includes serving the public.
