‘No punishment or rebuke, just write Ram-Ram…’: Why Ayodhya college is asking students to write Lord Ram’s name? The purpose is to…

While educational institutions usually dole out punishments or chastise students for bad behaviour a medical college in Uttar Pradeshs Ayodhya is experimenting with a uniquely spiritual method to inculcate discipline asking erring students to write the name of Lord Ram in their notebooks. Why college asked to students to write Lord Rams name? According to media reports the Rajarshi Dashrath Autonomous State Medical College also known as Ayodhya Medical College has announced that erring students will no longer face punishments or chastisements and will instead be required to write Ram-Ram in their notebooks with a belief that it will help inculcate the cherished values of Lord Ram among the youth. Explaining the logic behind the novel decision Principal Dr. Satyajit Verma said move aims to teach discipline through values not harsh punishment. When students chant the name of Lord Ram it will awaken a sense of restraint and positivity within them. The purpose of education is not just to impart knowledge but also to inculcate values discipline and dignity in students Verma believes. The decision has been welcomed by both students and teachers with many describing it as an opportunity to attain mental peace and introspection. Students believe the practice would help them correct mistakes and learn self-control while teachers have hailed the initiative as a chance to foster a more harmonious and cultured atmosphere in the campus. Where did the idea come from? As per Principal Verma the idea originated a few days ago when a few paramedical students were seen sitting idle in the hospital and were advised to pen Lord Rams name in their notebooks. The college administration then mulled over the idea and decided to implement it campus-wide to teach discipline to erring students Verma said. Verma believes that the name of Lord Ram is a mantra whose recitation helps remove negative thoughts and increase positive qualities. Students who believe in Lord Ram should write his name and those who believe in Lord Krishna or any other deity can write their name. Our aim is to awaken values peace and dignity in every student so that the dream of Ramrajya can be realised he said.
