Ishaan Khatter’s Homebound made all the headlines first after its Cannes premiere and later when the film became India’s official entry to the new Academy Awards. However, despite receiving considerable appreciation and critical acclaim, the film was unable to achieve a successful box office run. However, for Ishaan Khatter, that doesn’t mean the movie is a failure in any sense. Ishaan Khatter’s film released in theatres on September 26 and managed to earn only about ₹5 crore at the domestic box office. Now, reacting to the low collection, the actor in an interview with PTI shared, “I don’t think this film is a failure. I think films have different journeys. As far as the box office is concerned, I think this film is going to have a long life. And this is not coming from a place of… I’m not trying to be deluded or in denial about the box office. I know the numbers very well. Our hope is to have it reach as many people as possible. And I’m not going to let up in my efforts in that.” Ishaan feels movies like Homebound wouldn’t be a rarity if smaller films got good numbers at the ticket window. “One does hope for a time where films like these will also see the kind of numbers that you see a big commercial blockbuster having because that would change things. It would create a kind of culture where films like these are allowed to exist and thrive and be made much more. Unfortunately, you see a rare film like this every once in a while,” Ishaan further shared and continued, “And in order to change that, the audience has to become an active participant, almost like a stakeholder.” Homebound – Storyline Homebound depicts the story of two childhood friends from a small hamlet in India who want to be police officers, expecting that the profession will earn them the respect they’ve never had. However, as they chase their dreams, their bond becomes strained due to hurdles and professional obligations. Reem Shaikh, Harshika Parmar, and Shalini Vatsa play supporting roles, alongside Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. The film, produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, and co-produced by Marijke Desouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier, promises to continue Ghaywan’s exploration of human connections and social landscapes in modern India.
