Not for this movie. The Highlander remake’s call sheet keeps getting longer and longer as Siobhán Cullen, Jun Jong-seo, Nassim Lyes, and Kevin McKidd have joined the Amazon MGM’s remake of the 1980s cult classic. The luminous roll call has Henry Cavill leading a cast that already includes Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Jeremy Irons and Djimon Hounsou, as well as Max Zhang and Drew McIntyre. The action fantasy, which hails from Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner, is being directed by Chad Stahelski and is slated for a theatrical release. Production was to have started in the fall, but was pushed after Cavill sustained an injury during pre-production. Filming will now begin in early 2026. Cavill is playing Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior. With the help of a swordsman named Ramirez (Crowe), the titular Highlander battles other immortals across the centuries, until, as the line in the original 1986 movie exclaimed, “There can be only one.” Related Stories 'The Witcher' Season 4 Official Trailer Shows Liam Hemsworth as an F-Bomb Dropping Geralt Henry Cavill Is Back in the Gym After 'Highlander' Injury Bautista is playing The Kurgen, the movie’s top villain, while Gillan is MacLeod’s Scottish and very mortal wife. Hounsou is an immortal warrior from Africa, while Abela is MacLeod’s modern romantic interest. Irons is the story’s other antagonist, the leader of a secret order called The Watchers, who keep an eye on the immortals and see them as a threat to humanity. Cullen is playing a police psychiatrist who discovers the existence of immortals and wants to help MacLeod. Jong’s character is part of the Watcher sect, while Lyes is an immortal pursuing MacLoed. It is not immediately clear who McKidd is playing. Michael Finch wrote the script for the remake. Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt are producing via United Artists, alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions and Louise Rosner. Cullen is an Irish actress who was one of the stars of Bodkin, Netflix’s black comedy set in the Emerald Isles, and is currently starring in the second season of black comedy Obituary, streaming on Hulu. She is repped by Tapestry and Conway van Gelder Grant. Korean actor Jong-seo most recently starred as the lead of Project Y, which premiered at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. Best known for her breakout role in Lee Chang Dong’s Burning, which became South Korea’s first film to make the shortlist for the Academy Awards for best foreign film, she made her Hollywood debut in the lead role of Mona Lisa in Ana Lily Amirpour’s Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon. Jong-seo is repped by UTA, Goodman Genow and AndMarq. Lyes appeared in French creature feature Under Paris, Netflix’s number two most popular non-English movie of all time, which was released in 2024. A former national kick-boxing champion in France, Lyes made his English-language debut alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in Gideon Raff’s limited-series The Spy. Lyes is repped by WME, Artist International Group and Adéquat in France. Scotsman McKidd is best known for his long-running role as Dr. Owen Hunt on ABC’s hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy (over 370 episodes served!). He also appeared in last year’s Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni drama It Ends with Us. McKidd is repped by WME and Independent Talent Group.
