‘Dirty’ Shelter Kitten Gets Fostered, What Happens Once Home Melts Hearts

In a viral TikTok video, a rescue orange kitten moves into his foster carer's home, not knowing that his life is about to change forever. The clip, shared in August by @chicken_nugget_kitten, shows the disheveled orange kitten wrapped in a fuzzy gray blanket, napping, unaware that he is about to go to his forever home. "POV [point of view]: you’re skrunkly dirty rescue kitten that’s about to be a spoiled foster fail," reads layover text in the clip. The poster adds in the caption: "I knew from the start that he would be a foster fail for sure. Nugget was found abandoned with several other older (6-9 month old) kittens outside of an emergency animal clinic. "At only 3 weeks old, he already had a huge personality and was screaming his head off during his exam before he made himself comfortable in the kitten nursery. And then he was snatched up by me and never left my house lol [laugh out loud]." Fostering pets can save not only their life, but also that of other homeless animals in need of a place in shelter. To get involved with fostering, contact your local shelter. Foster families must provide a healthy, safe environment for cats, taking them to veterinarian appointments and adoption centers, and offering socialization, cuddles, exercise, and mental stimulation. Ideally, foster parents should also spend about two hours daily with their feline, although the exact time depends on the cat’s specific energy levels and needs. People who work full-time jobs can still foster, as coordinators match cats based on the caregiver’s availability. Felines who are fine being alone during the day can be placed with working carers, as long as they give them attention before or after work. The duration of foster care varies based on each cat’s medical or behavioral needs. Once a feline is cleared by a veterinarian, they are returned to the adoption center for placement. The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 8.6 million views and more than 792,000 likes on the platform. One user, LJCH, commented: "The way he stretched is making me cry, I don't know why! so happy he is safe and happy with you." Kittenloove posted: "You’re definitely his/her person, I truly believe cats pick their parents (owners). He met you and was like OK lemme get comfy cause I’m going home soon." Feral Ferret added: "Did not know definition of Skrunkly before seeing kitten. After seeing kitten now know definition of Skrunkly."
