‘Changing that’: Preschool move flips script

The NSW government has invested $769m to build the facilities, which will double the number of public preschools across the state. It is the first time new public preschools have been constructed across NSW in two decades. Fifty-one new facilities will built in the Sydney metro area and another 49 across regional NSW. The public preschools will accommodate up to 9000 children in NSW once the buildings are complete. Premier Chris Minns said the new public preschools would give thousands of children across NSW the best possible start in life. “For too long, families have struggled to find affordable, high-quality early learning close to home,” he said. “We’re changing that, building public preschools right alongside public schools to make life easier for parents and give every child the opportunity to thrive. “The former government didn’t build a single public preschool in 12 years. We’re building 100 because every child in NSW deserves access to early learning, no matter where they live.” Acting Minister for Education and Early Learning Courtney Houssos said families in Western Sydney and regional NSW had limited access to quality early childhood education for too long.
