During Diwali or other festivals, you might have noticed that dogs often get frightened and hide when fireworks explode, as the noise is far too loud for them. To address this, a hotel in London has launched a special TV channel designed specifically to keep dogs calm during such noisy occasions. Calm For Canine: A TV Channel For Pets Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch has introduced a new channel called Calm for Canine in its pet-friendly rooms. Its purpose is to help anxious dogs feel relaxed and at ease during fireworks displays. The channel features videos of happy dogs running freely in open fields and along beaches, accompanied by serene scenes of calm waves, boats, playful rabbits in the snow, and squirrels gathering nuts. Soft classical music plays in the background to create a soothing environment. The visuals primarily use blue, yellow, and green hues, as research indicates dogs are most attracted to these colours. Virgin Red, the group’s loyalty programme, conducted a survey revealing that 87% of dog owners prefer to keep their pets away from cities on fireworks nights. Of 1,000 respondents, two-thirds admitted they dread Bonfire Night due to their pets’ fear and anxiety. The survey also revealed more about dogs’ reactions to fireworks: 73% of owners said their pets become restless due to loud bangs, around 30% reported continuous barking, and 16% said their dogs attempt to escape in fear. VIP Treatment For Dogs A spokesperson for Virgin Hotels said, “Fireworks night is stressful for our four-legged friends and their owners, especially in cities like London where displays are everywhere. That’s why we’ve made extra arrangements so our guest dogs can enjoy a VIP experience with us. Our new Canine Calming Video first excites the dogs and then gradually helps them drift into a comfortable sleep.” The hotel has also introduced a special pet menu, enhancing the pet-friendly experience with treats such as Scampi Fries and Chicken-Flavoured Bark Brew Dog Beer. As the hotel notes, “We don’t just allow pets to visit; we pamper them with love.”
