Actress Emily Deschanel is opening up about having a difficult experience during one of her jobs in the entertainment industry. During an appearance on an October 2025 episode of actor Michael Rosenbaum‘s podcast, Inside of You, Deschanel was asked if she ever experienced “a dark period of time.” She replied that she “had, like, one job that really triggered [her] for various reasons,” including her “biology” and her personal history. “It really triggered me and was hard to get past. It was just bad situations. I did not feel safe in anywhere. I found out that like one of the people was saying, like, the worst things about me, behind my back when I thought we were, like, friends or friendly or whatever,” said the actress during the interview. She clarified that she has not had many negative experiences working on sets. “Most of my career, I’ve had really good experiences with good people, who mean well,” said Deschanel while recording the Inside of You interview. “We’re going to give each other the benefit of the doubt. Like you mess up, you have each other’s back. You’re not out for each other or something. But this job, like, I mean it triggered me. It really triggered me and it was really upsetting. That was one that was really upsetting to me.” When Rosenbaum asked Deschanel how she was able to “get over that,” she replied, “A lot of therapy.” Emily Deschanel Shared That She Had Some Issues Filming the 1st Season of ‘Bones’ Deschanel famously played the titular character, Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, on the hit Fox series, Bones, which had a 12-season run until 2017. In a July 2025 interview on actor David Duchovny‘s podcast, Fail Better, Deschanel shared she had some issues filming the show’s first season, which premiered in 2005. She explained that she and her castmates were “working 14 to 16-hour days” and “had to memorize the lines,” which were full of scientific terms. “I’d come to set and I would be trying to remember the lines that, you know, I got no sleep and trying to remember the lines that I had memorized the night before and then I had them in my head and couldn’t remember them,” said Deschanel, who has been diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. “I’d be on set and I’d look around and I’d see the whole crew looking at me, kind of waiting for me to know my lines, to say my lines, which is complicated dialogue.” She then shared that she began “having panic attacks.” In addition, Deschanel recalled a moment when the show’s creator, Hart Hanson, visited her trailer to let her know the studio “had concerns about [her] work,” as they believed she “was late and unprepared.” Deschanel said that the conversation made her feel shame. “I was a wreck,” said Deschanel to Duchovny. Deschanel said that the show’s producers and writers helped her manage starring on Bones without feeling so overwhelmed. “[Hanson] gave me support. That’s how I got someone to help me run the lines with me,” said Deschanel in the July 2025 interview.
