After four generations of serving the Bellaghy community, J Overend & Sons has closed its doors, marking the end of a family-run business that has been a local institution for decades. The closure follows the recent passing of James (Jim) Overend after a long illness. In a heartfelt social media post, the family thanked their customers and community for years of support. “After many years of serving our valued customers, Overend’s Butchers will be closing its doors effective immediately,” the family explained. “We want to express our deepest gratitude to all our customers and community members who have supported us throughout the years. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve you and we are truly thankful for your loyalty and trust.” The family reflected on their history and the relationships built over the decades. “This decision was not made lightly and it comes with mixed emotions,” they added. “We look back with pride at all we have accomplished together and the many relationships we have built along the way. “As we close this chapter, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who have been a part of our journey. Thank you for making J Overend Butchers a meaningful part of your lives.” Local residents and customers responded with messages of sympathy and gratitude, sharing fond memories of visits to the family shop and recognizing the Overends’ contribution to the community over the years. With one local adding: “Bellaghy will never be the same without you.”
