'I tried three items on McDonald’s new menu - one completely caught me off guard'

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am obsessed with cheese. And I'm not just talking about your standard Cheddars and Edam, but even the punchier Gorgonzolas and Brie, too. So, when I found out that McDonald's had unveiled a new cheesy snack on its menu, I rushed out the door to try it. The new Mac and Cheese Triangles are just what you expect—gooey macaroni in a Cheddar sauce encased in a golden, crunchy breadcrumb shell. While it is their first appearance in the UK, these triangles are already a big hit in the United Arab Emirates and are now here as part of the chain's World Menu Heist menu. This line-up also brings in several other fan-favourite burgers, sides, and desserts from Australia, Indonesia, and countries all over the world for a limited time of six weeks. I managed to persuade a friend to join me, and together, we decided to go all out - sampling not just the triangles but another intriguing new snack - Garlic & Black Pepper McNuggets. Hailing from Japan, these seem like regular nuggets, but are said to pack a punch, with McDonald's describing them as 'a flavour bomb in every bite'. Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, so, we indulged in the new Chocolate Pretzel McFlurry from Malaysia, too. I'll admit, McFlurries aren't usually my thing, but I was hoping the salt-and-sweet contrast might just win me over this time. Overall, the food cost us £14.57, with a Mac and Cheese Triangles Sharebox at £7.09, the Garlic & Black Pepper McNuggets at £4.89 and a Chocolate Pretzel McFlurry at £2.59. However, it is important to note that prices can differ at various restaurants across the country. When our dinner finally arrived, you can probably guess my first move was to dive straight in for the Mac and Cheese Triangles - but they weren't quite what I had expected. McDonald's had nailed the texture, with their satisfyingly crisp outer shell giving way to a soft, melt-in-the-mouth centre. The pasta pieces were just small enough too, maintaining balance without being stodgy. But flavour-wise? A bit of a letdown, in my opinion. When stacked up against McDonald's Mozarella Dippers, Cheese Melt Dippers and Halloumi Fries, I'd put these last. The texture had promise, but the lacking cheese taste just left me craving something else. That said, my friend thought these were the best snack of the bunch, so opinions certainly differ. While they might not hit the spot for die-hard cheese lovers like me, they are far from offensive and would definitely satisfy a hunger. Next up were the Garlic & Black Pepper McNuggets. These, too, weren't quite as punchy as I expected, and I couldn't quite taste the garlic, but they were packed with flavour nonetheless. Of both snacks, these by far were gobbled down the quickest, and when paired with ketchup, it was a match made in fast-food heaven. Having devoured all of this, it was finally time for the McFlurry. As I mentioned, I do not really have a sweet tooth and was honestly expecting to like this the least of the three options - but I couldn't have been more wrong. McDonald's has seemingly found the perfect Goldilocks balance with this dessert. The pretzels were salty but not overly so, while the chocolate sauce was sweet but not entirely overpowering. The combination perfectly complemented the classic McFlurry ice cream. For me, this was definitely the best part of our meal. Overall, while I was not entirely enamoured with the Mac and Cheese Triangles, the new McFlurry definitely caught me off guard in the best way I could imagine. Despite these mixed opinions, I'd certainly recommend trying the World Heist Menu - especially if you're a McDonald's fan. If you are curious to see what else they have on offer, I've included a full list below.
