Former Chelsea player and manager Ruud Gullit has defended current head coach Enzo Maresca against any critics. Maresca still does have some critics and doubters out there, even amongst the Chelsea fan base. Football is a game of opinions, and I am sure that people have their reasons for this. But mostly, I am seeing Maresca become more and more backed now by the Chelsea fan base after winning The Club World Cup in the summer and The Conference League before that, as well as now putting Chelsea in third place in the Premier League this international break after beating Wolves 3-0 on Saturday night. They will need to come through this next set of international breaks unscathed though, hopefully keeping players fit and injury free whilst out representing their countries. But my colleague believes we could end up seeing an influx of new injuries being reported in the next 48 hours. Let’s just hope he’s wrong there. Maresca doing well Gullit, who was very popular amongst the fan base during his time at the club, has spoke to Last Word on Sports this week. He says: “I think that people underestimate Maresca a little bit. I don’t know why. I think he needs to be given time. There’s a lot going on. Does he buy these players or is it someone else who buys these players? Then he has to cope with the situation? “And that’s a huge thing. So many players. And to keep them all happy. So therefore we have to give him a little bit of time in order to figure out how he has to deal with the philosophy of the new owners.”
