'Genius' 93p hack to get rid of oil stains on clothes with no washing needed

No matter how clean an eater you are, we've all had our fair share of accidents. Whether it's a drop of ketchup falling from your chip just before you've put it in your mouth, or an unfortunate mishap with your fork that's sent food tumbling down your clean shirt, there aren't many of us who can say we've never stained our clothes. Some food stains are relatively easy to remove from clothes with a quick wash, but others can be more stubborn. Oil stains are among the most difficult stains to remove, as oil and water famously don't mix, so using typical washing techniques often isn't enough to shift the oil. But according to one woman on Instagram , there is a handy trick for getting oil stains out of your clothes in seconds. What's more, you only need one 93p item to make the trick work - and you don't even need to wash the affected garment. Christina Marcano, who works in the apparel business and has been dealing with clothing for over 20 years, claimed some of her factory employees shared this trick with her. She said: "I have an oil stain [on this shirt]. I have no idea where I got it from, and I hate it when this happens. I have been working in the apparel business for over 20 years, and there's a trick that the factories taught me that gets rid of oil stains almost instantly." All you need to do is sprinkle some baby powder - also known as talcum powder - on the stain itself, and then take a clean part of the fabric and use it to rub the powder into the stained area. Christina showed after doing this for less than a minute, the stain on her T-shirt was completely gone. When she put the top back on, you couldn't tell the stain had ever been there, and she could wear her shirt for the day without needing to wash it - which is perfect if you're short on time. Baby powder can be bought for as little as 93p from some supermarkets , but average prices for the product from pharmacies like Boots are often around £2. The trick works because baby powder is an astringent, which means it can help to dry up secretions. In the same way that baby powder helps to dry oiliness on our own skin, it can also help dry oil spills. Commenters on the post were blown away by the woman's hack. Many said they had no idea that baby powder was so effective, and claimed they would be rushing out to buy some so they have it ready for their next accident. One person said: "Holy mind blown!" Another added: "This is an amazing tip, thank you!" A third wrote: "I can confirm that cornflour also works." If the baby powder hack hasn't worked for you, or your oil stain is more severe, you can try a more in-depth cleaning routine. Use cornstarch or baby powder first to try and clean up any excess oil. Leave it to sit for 30 minutes and then brush it off, before following these steps
