Former NFL defensive end Isaac Rochell recently shared a pointed observation about the situation surrounding Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and former coach Matt Eberflus.Rochell opened on Tuesday with a lighthearted remark.“I was over here painting my nails," Rochell said, via "Good Morning Football." “Oh, because who we’re going to talk about, Caleb Williams. Because I am so excited to continue to see him this season, because people, I don’t think they realise what his situation was last year, yeah, he had Eberflus as his head coach."Rochell insisted that Eberflus' defensive mindset may have stunted the young quarterback’s early development."Eberflus, if you guys don’t know, is now a defensive coordinator, and previously was a defensive coordinator," Rochell said. "You take a rookie quarterback and throw him with a defensive minded head coach. I don’t know that that gives him the best chance to succeed."Ben Johnson is an offensive guru, and will always be an offensive guru. You talked about systems, man, and what that can do for a quarterback, especially a young quarterback. I’m not surprised by what I’m seeing.”Under Eberflus, Williams showed flashes of elite potential despite being placed in a difficult situation. He set multiple Bears rookie franchise records, including 3,541 passing yards, 351 completions, 562 attempts and 20 touchdowns.Williams also had 354 consecutive passes without an interception, which is an NFL rookie record. However, he was sacked 68 times, the most by a Chicago quarterback in a single season and third-most in NFL history. It exposed major offensive line and scheme issues.Chicago's offense under Eberflus lacked rhythm and identity, resulting to a 4-8 start before he was fired midseason.NFL insider says Bears will not bench Caleb WilliamsDespite speculation among fans, the Chicago Bears have no plans to bench Caleb Williams in favor of Tyson Bagent. Marquee Sports Network's Scott Bair addressed it on Monday.“The Bears are not turning to Tyson Bagent right now," Bair wrote. "No way. Not even on the table. They drafted Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall. He has the mobility and arm talent and skill to be an excellent quarterback in this league, and I personally wouldn’t put him and Justin Fields in the same category. Not by a long shot.”Williams has shown poise and control, throwing just four interceptions this season, while maintaining league-average efficiency and keeping Chicago competitive in November. With Ben Johnson's arrival, the focus is on long-term development and Williams has shown measurable progress.
