What the … ? Former LSU Tigers head football coach Brian Kelly had become extremely unpopular in the state of Louisiana prior to getting fired by the university Sunday, and it appears that Kelly knew that was the case. ESPN published a story Tuesday that dished out five reasons for why Kelly’s more than three years at LSU was a failure, with one of them being that he “never seemed to fit in.” Reporters from the outlet, Adam Rittenberg and Mark Schlabach, stated that Kelly knew about his lack of connection and was working with a Washington D.C.-based image consultant last offseason in an attempt to improve his vibe to the public. It didn’t even matter that LSU was ranked No. 3 in the nation at one point with an undefeated record, people still didn’t like Kelly. And he put it on himself, remember the whole incident with the fake Southern accent? It’s just things like that. From the start, it was a mess for Kelly at LSU in terms of image. Good riddance to Brian Kelly and his awful fake Southern accent. pic.twitter.com/7w7PnJ90v0 — Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) October 27, 2025 That’s crazy how we have college football coaches moving like politicians now … working with D.C.-based consultants, though? And then ultimately he was fired by the governor … LMAO … sports is politics at this point.
