Jack Della Maddalena is set to defend his welterweight title against Islam Makhachev on Nov. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York. However, the Australian has already made a bold plan to solidify his legacy, one that involves Khamzat Chimaev. The MMA fandom, however, appears divided on the idea.Della Maddalena is not one of those champions who want to switch weight classes as soon as they get their hands on a title. He believes a champion should run through the top 10 of his division before even considering moving up.The 29-year-old lauds Makhachev in this regard, given that the Dagestani defended the title four times before moving up. Similarly, he plans to dominate the welterweight division, and once he does, Della Maddalena wants to move up and face the current middleweight champion, Khamzat Chimaev.In an interview with New York Post Sports, Della Maddalena said:"I would like to be a defending champion. I'd like to see a champion sort of, at least clean out a lot of the top 10 guys before moving up. Respect to Islam, I do think he has moved up at a good time... He cleaned out the division and moved up. I'll try to do the same... [Middleweight is a possibility one day] Yeah, for sure.
