As a result, the Indian Women's team lifted the World Cup trophy for the first time after losing in the finals in 2005 and 2017.The Women in Blue batted first after losing the toss and managed to score 298 for seven in 50 overs on the back of brilliant batting performances from Shafali Verma (87), Deepti Sharma (58), Smriti Mandhana (45), and others. Ayabonga Khaka picked up three wickets for South Africa with the ball.Laura Wolvaardt (101) then hit a magnificent century and kept her side in the hunt during the steep chase. Here are some of the best memes:"2025 has to be the era of chokers," an X post read."We lost our way a bit through the middle"- South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt after loss vs India in 2025 ICC Women's World Cup finalAt the post-match presentation, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt said she was proud of her team's performance in the tournament and acknowledged that India played better in the final. Reflecting on the loss, she said: "I think I couldn't be prouder of this team, unfortunate to be on the losing side, India played better cricket today but, I'm proud of the team! We did so well to put those two bad games behind us, we were either really good or really bad! But, we were good for most parts! That's the main thing. Probably, didn't have the best year leading into the World Cup.Wolvaardt continued:"But, I tried to separate my batting from the captaincy and that worked. We were hoping for some more seam movement. With the bat, we lost our way a bit through the middle. India were definitely tracking at 350, but to keep them down to 300 was good. Shafali Verma's bowling was something else! But if she comes off with the bat, she can hurt teams! She was brilliant today though!"Harmanpreet Kaur became the fourth captain after Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma to win a World Cup trophy for the Indian team.
