Zubeen Garg to be cremated in Sonapur with state honours; Assam govt orders second autopsy

Guwahati: Cremation of singer Zubeen Garg will take place at a location in Sonapur near Guwahati on Tuesday. The Assam Government will do a second autopsy of Garg at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. The Assam police team would be sent to Singapore for investigation into the death of Garg.Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, a delegation from Arunachal Pradesh Assam as well as the Deputy Chief minister from Meghalaya are expected to join the cremation ceremony. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Garg will be cremated with full state honour. Government has announced a three-day mourning due to the death of Zubeen Garg. On Monday, Assam Government also announced two dry days across the state on Monday and Tuesday. The Chief minister also informed that the Meghalaya government has also decided to declare a dry day prohibiting sale and consumption of liquor on Tuesday particularly along the Assam-Meghalaya border areas. The Assam Chief minister further added that the government will videography the whole event. ” We have seen that a section of people are trying to create disturbance intentionally. We are not going to tolerate this. We want to bid farewell to Zubeen Garg with due respect. We understand the emotional outburst among people but if we see people trying to create disturbance, they will be taken to task by the police later,” said Sarma.Live Events Garg died in Singapore on Friday. He had gone for a performance at the Northeast festival.The Assam Government will do a second autopsy of Garg at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. Sarma said that experts from All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Guwahati will also be involved in the process of carrying out the autopsy. Giving details about the second autopsy, the Chief Minister said that after an autopsy in Singapore, the most neutral country, there should not be a demand for a secondary autopsy. “However, as there is a demand, we as a government are trying to accommodate the demand so that there is no blame game later,” said Sarma. The Chief minister said that Zubeen’s wife and the family had consented for the second autopsy and so the decision was taken. The Chief minister also said that an Assam police team would be sent to Singapore. “There is a process for that. We’ll issue a letter Rogatory to Singapore authorities and I hope that they will co-operate and agree with this,” said Sarma. He said that the government will have to move the Guwahati court. The Guwahati court will issue the letter Rogatory with which our police will go to Singapore a s I believe that the Singapore authorities will cooperate with us, Sarma said. The Chief minister also warned that the government will also take stern action against those who have tried to take advantage of the situation and are trying to disrupt peace. “After 2 pm Tuesday, if we see anyone trying to impose a bandh or misbehave with anyone in the name of Zubeen Garg, the government will take stern action,” said the Chief Minister.
