Zubeen Garg Death Case: Bandmate, Co-Singer Arrested, Total Arrests Rise to 4

Singer Zubeen Garg’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta have been arrested in connection with his death, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four, sources told Times Now on Thursday. Both Goswami and Mahanta were present at the yacht party during the North East India Festival on September 19, where Garg had joined friends and colleagues before his death. According to sources in the Special Investigation Team (SIT), video evidence shows Goswami swimming very close to Garg, while Mahanta was recording the incident on her cellphone. The two had been under interrogation for the past six days before their arrest. Earlier, Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma and North East India Festival manager Shyamkanu Mahanta were arrested on Wednesday. The SIT has now added murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy and causing death by negligence to the list of charges. “The investigation is going on and I cannot share details at this time, but we have added charges under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” said Munna Gupta, Special Director General of Police, Assam CID, who is leading the SIT. The SIT head further confirmed that the team is awaiting approval to travel to Singapore to collect key evidence. “Our team is ready. We have sent the request through proper channels, and it will take some time,” Munna Gupta said. Meanwhile, Garg’s wife Garima Garg said she has complete faith in the legal system. “We will soon learn what really happened that day. If anyone is responsible, they will be punished very soon. I believe justice will be delivered,” she said. Zubeen Garg’s Wife Questions Negligence in Singer’s Death Zubeen Garg’s wife Garima Saikia Garg has demanded answers from those who were with him, stating that the family wants clarity on what happened during his final moments. Garima Saikia Garg said that she wants to know what happened to him and how negligence could be allowed to happen. “We want to know what happened to him, why it happened and how this negligence could be allowed to happen? We want answers,” Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, said Monday, according to a PTI report. The Assamese singer died on September 19 in a swimming incident in Singapore on September 19. He was in the city to attend the North East India Festival. His mortal remains were flown back to Delhi and later transported to Guwahati, where fan paid their last respects. Zubeen Garg was cremated with full state honours in Kamarkuchi village, about 20 km from Guwahati. Following the 11th-day rituals for the singer, his wife stated that everyone who was on the yacht with him and at the Singapore event he attended “must answer” her questions. Garima stated that, based on the video of the singer’s final moments, it was clear he was “extremely exhausted,” and emphasised that she wants a thorough investigation. She also remarked that those on the yacht could have easily pulled him out of the water. “Why did they not lift him from the water when they knew he was not in a condition to swim? They could have done so, as it was very easy to distract him,” Garima quoted PTI. For all the latest news and india news, visit Times Now to get live updates and breaking news around the world.
